Indiana men’s soccer comes from behind to defeat Kentucky and remain unbeaten

Despite trailing going into halftime, the Hoosiers remained calm, scoring all three goals in the second half to win their 10th match of the season

Indiana entered unfamiliar territory after the first 45 minutes of Tuesday’s match with Kentucky, as for the first time all season, the No. 2 team in the country trailed at halftime.

Agustin Lopez’s goal in the 19th minute was the lone goal of the first half, as Kentucky took a 1-0 lead into the break.

With their backs against the wall, the Hoosiers played the best half of soccer they have all season, scoring on three separate occasions in the second half to defeat Kentucky, 3-1.

The victory improved IU’s record to 10-0-2 on the season, including a perfect 9-0-0 record at Bill Armstrong Stadium.

“Sometimes you have to remind them of what the standard is,” head coach Todd Yeagley said on Indiana’s second half turnaround postgame. “The first half; not great things from it. The second half response was great.”

Looking for a big break, Indiana finally found one in the 63rd minute, when VAR confirmed a handball violation against Kentucky in the penalty box, awarding the Hoosiers a penalty kick.

Forward Oliver Moller-Jensen, as he has done so many times this season, came through when IU needed him most, converting on the penalty kick to even the score at one.

Just when you thought Indiana’s leading goal scorer couldn’t impress any more, a mere 9 minutes and 15 seconds after his game-tying goal, he found himself as the recipient of a juicy cross from fellow forward Stephane Njike.

Without missing a beat, Moller-Jensen rose up and headed Njike’s cross into the back of the net, giving Indiana their first lead of the night. The FAU transfer’s ninth goal of the season wound up being the game winner.

For good measure, Easton Bogard added the exclamation point with his fifth goal of the season in the 75th minute.

When the Hoosiers needed it most, their big-name forwards came through, and they did it as a team, something Moller-Jensen noted postgame.

“Playing with them is a joy; two very special players,” Moller-Jensen said on playing with Njike and Bogard. “Being able to play besides them is an honor; we do special things.”

Before resuming Big Ten play in just over a week, Indiana has a chance to wrap up their 2026 non-conference slate undefeated on Friday,

The Hoosiers next matchup is scheduled for Oct. 9 vs. Division III Hanover. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Eastern at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
