Easton Bogard scored Indiana’s only goal of the night on Friday, handing the reigning national champions their first shutout loss of the season, 1-0.
It was a damp and rainy Friday night as No. 2 Indiana (7-0-1, 2-0-0 Big Ten) hosted the Washington Huskies (4-3-1, 1-1-0 Big Ten) at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
A little rain delay didn’t keep the Hoosiers at bay as inclement weather pushed back the game by 30 minutes. It didn’t stop Hoosier fans from showing up either, as stands were filled to the brim with all kinds of shades of Hoosier red.
The fact that Indiana men’s soccer were up against the defending national champions didn’t seem to scare the Hoosiers a bit.
“We said before the game, (it’s) a completely new season and you know just another opportunity for us to keep climbing the ladder,” Bogard, a third-year forward, said.
A slow start for undefeated Indiana certainly didn’t stay that way. In the 16th minute, Bogard put Indiana on the scoreboard with a clean header. Immediately after the celebration, the 2024 Illinois Gatorade Player of the Year was met with a warm embrace from teammate Stephane Njike, showcasing how special the team’s bond is on and off the field and the difference team chemistry made all across the board.
Bogard’s head shot made for his fourth goal of the season. Bogard only started four games in 2025, but he’s started every single game in 2026 so far.
“It shows a lot of trust in me, but you know I don’t take it for granted,” Bogard said. “Every game is another opportunity for me to prove myself.”
Friday night was another opportunity for Bogard to prove himself and that is exactly what he did.
“He’s, I think, improved in all aspects of this game,” Indiana head coach Todd Yeagley said. “His endurance, both feet have gotten cleaner. He’s just really easy and fun to play with.”
Bogard and Indiana will be back on the road at 8 p.m. Tuesday to face the No. 7 Wisconsin Badgers, where Yeagley began his head coaching career.
