Indiana ends up on wrong side of slugfest, losing to Oregon 24-12

The Ducks didn't score until the 4th inning, and then came alive

The game had all the makings of another offensive showcase for the Hoosiers.

Instead, it turned into a slugfest they couldn’t survive.

Indiana jumped out to a commanding early lead, but Oregon Ducks softball answered with relentless firepower, storming back for a 24–12 win Monday at Andy Mohr Field. The Ducks finished with 24 runs on 20 hits, while Indiana countered with 12 runs on 11 hits in a game that featured 36 total runs.

The Hoosiers wasted no time setting the tone. After drawing two walks in the first inning, Josie Bird crushed a three-run homer to right-center, giving Indiana a 3–0 lead. In the third, Ellie Goins delivered the biggest swing of the night for Indiana, a grand slam to center, pushing the advantage to 7–0.

Indiana’s offense kept rolling in the fourth when Bird launched her second home run of the game, a two-run shot to left-center, finishing her night 2-for-3 with two home runs and five RBIs.

But Oregon flipped the game in a matter of innings.

The Ducks exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning alone, fueled by a string of clutch hits. Braiesey Rosa drove in two with a single; Kaylynn Jones added a sacrifice fly, and Elon Butler delivered a two-run triple. Amari Harper and Stefini Ma'Ake followed with RBI hits to tie the game at 7–7.

From there, Oregon’s lineup only got hotter.

Jones led the charge with a massive performance, going 2-for-3 with five RBIs, including a go-ahead three-run homer in the fifth that gave Oregon an 11–9 lead. Butler was just as dangerous, finishing 3-for-6 with six RBIs, highlighted by a towering grand slam in the sixth.

Harper added 2-for-4 hitting with three RBIs, while Emma Cox delivered one of the biggest blows of the game, a grand slam in the seventh, as part of a 3-for-5 night with five RBIs. In total, four Ducks recorded at least three RBIs.

After tying the game in the fourth, Oregon scored four runs in the fifth, six in the sixth, and seven in the seventh, completely overwhelming Indiana’s pitching staff. The Hoosiers used six pitchers, allowing 20 hits and issuing nine walks in the loss.

Indiana continued to fight offensively. Alex Cooper went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, including a run-scoring double in the sixth. Goins finished with four RBIs, while Hannah Haberstroh added a 2-for-4 performance at the plate.

Still, the Hoosiers couldn’t keep pace with Oregon’s late-inning surge.

After building a seven-run lead early, Indiana was outscored 24–5 over the final four innings, a dramatic shift that underscored the Ducks’ offensive depth and ability to capitalize in key moments.

The loss drops Indiana to 25-7 on the season and serves as a reminder of the fine margins against elite competition. On a night where the bats showed up in a big way, it was Oregon’s that simply proved louder. Indiana is back in action at 6 p.m. this Friday against Detroit Mercy in Bloomington.
