The Hoosiers have faced their first bit of adversity in 2018 as they have lost three games for the first time all season. IU lost its last series at Ohio State, but will look to turn it around when Illinois comes to town for a three-game weekend set. Can the Hoosiers get back on track? Josh and Zain discuss.

Sometimes the best things go unplanned.
Friday, in the 31st running of the Women’s Little 500, Kappa Alpha Theta threw their plans out the window and won the race for the second straight year.
It was in the last quarter of the race and senior Rachel Brown, the number two rider in ITT’s, had yet to see the track. She was fresh and came on for her one and only set around lap 80. Little did she know that it would be her only set.
Brown said she had no idea when she got on the bike for the first time that she would be the one to finish it out. Her coach, Ryan Knapp, said it wasn’t necessarily in the plans, but it had to happen.

The Hoosiers just keep on rolling. Heading into Wednesday's game vs. Ball State, IU leads the nation in team ERA. The pitching has been stellar and the bats have followed suit. But the competition is ramping up with an upcoming series at Ohio State and more games vs. better Big Ten teams. How will the Hoosiers respond? Zain, Josh and Eddie break it down.

Dynasties in sports are hard to come by. But in the 1970s, the Little 500 was dominated by Delta Chi. A lot of that had to do with Mark Dayton. He rode from 1973 to 1976 and won three races in his racing career.

INDIANAPOLIS - It was March 28 when junior Tim Herrin got a relief appearance in his hometown of Terre Haute, Indiana.
It was the bottom of the fifth and the Hoosiers had just taken a two-run lead in the top half of the inning. But then Herrin allowed two straight singles to start the fifth and had runners at the corners. Not a great situation.
What Herrin did next might have turned around his season. He got out of the inning, fist pump to boot.
Once against Tuesday night in Indianapolis, Herrin had his best stuff and it helped Indiana to a 3-0 win over Notre Dame.

Kappa Sigma has been a sleeping giant of the Little 500 in past years. However, with an experienced team, they qualified second. Behind the work of their captain Jack Basler, they have rebuilt themselves in 2018 and are hoping for a big day come race day.

Just when it seemed like the Hoosiers were done scoring, they weren’t.
IU went down in order in the first inning. But from the second until the eighth, the Hoosiers sent no less than six batters to the plate in an inning. They scored two runs an inning from the second through the sixth, four runs in the seventh, and, for good measure, eight runs in the eighth.
A demolition broke out at Bart Kaufman Field Sunday as Indiana baseball finished off a three-game sweep of the Northwestern Wildcats with a 22-1 win.
“Good day, just got it going,” IU coach Chris Lemonis said. “Actually, the guy they threw had really good numbers on the year so we were bunting and doing everything early because we really thought it’d be a tight game.”
It all started out with freshman Drew Ashley getting things going in the second with a single that scored two runs. From then on out, IU scored in a multitude of different ways. It was six doubles, three home runs, two sacrifice flies and six stolen bases.

Northwestern had five pitchers and a catcher on the mound Sunday. No pitcher gave up less than two runs and no reliever went longer than 1.1 innings pitched. Nick Paciorek, the backup catcher, even gave up an unearned run.
It was just a slow and steady beat down all afternoon long and all weekend long. The Hoosiers outscored Northwestern 40-4 in the three games, but the all-red jerseys are still undefeated.
“We talk about the Tiger Woods, we bring them out on Sundays,” Scotty Bradley said. “We enjoy playing in them. It’s cool, you feel like Santa Claus coming out on Sundays too. It adds a little bit of flare to the game on Sunday.”

While the offense was on fire, sophomore Cam Beauchamp turned in a solid performance on the hill. The southpaw fired five innings giving up one run on four hits while striking out a season high six batters.
It was Beauchamp’s longest outing since his six-inning performance against Northern Illinois on March 18. In Indiana’s search for a Sunday starter, the Peru, Indiana native gave Lemonis a lot to like.
“He’s still pitched better,” Lemonis said. “I know that sounds crazy, but he’s got such good stuff and he’s just learning on the run.”

IU’s success just continues for another weekend. The Hoosiers have won six straight games once again this season and are climbing the Big Ten standings. With Sunday’s win, the Hoosiers are now back in the top three of the conference. There’s still a lot of baseball left to be played, but there’s a lot to like so far.

“I think it shows a lot of maturity in this team that you play a long day on Friday, essentially, with the doubleheader and taking so much out of us that second game with the comeback win,” Bradley said. “But comeback today and still have that focus and that edge to come back and put together one more good game and finish off the weekend was something that was great.”

The Hoosiers have won their last three ballgames and that is partly because of their pitching. They rank third in all of America in team ERA led by Jonathan Stiever and Pauly Milto. IU's bats have also been clicking. Coming off a series win over Purdue, the Hoosiers will welcome in Northwestern this weekend. Can the Hoosiers keep it going? Josh and Zain discuss.

Freshman Justin Walker and sophomore Jeremy Houston have been going opposite directions in terms of their production at the plate.
Before Tuesday, Houston hadn’t recorded a hit since March 18. However, in the previous five games for Walker, he had driven in 10 runs. But Tuesday was a night for them to share the spotlight.
Behind two RBI’s each from the middle infield duo of Walker and Houston, the Hoosiers completed the season sweep over Indiana State with a 6-1 win at Bart Kaufman Field.
“It was nice,” IU coach Chris Lemonis said of his middle infield’s production. “I thought the hit of the game was Justin’s, that two out hit. We were just struggling along. And then the last one by Jeremy, hopefully that will give him a bit of confidence.”
Coming into the season, big things were expected from Houston. He was coming off a freshman campaign where he was successful at the plate and in the field. The sophomore slump has been a real thing. Because of that, Walker got the start at shortstop for the entire weekend series at Purdue.

Whatever IU tried to do Friday against its in-state rival, it just wasn’t enough.
The Hoosiers couldn’t get enough offense, they couldn’t get enough late-inning pitching and they couldn’t make the defensive play when they needed. On the opposite side for the Purdue Boilermakers, they were able to capitalize off of those mistakes.
Freshman Justin Walker’s two-out error in the top of the ninth proved costly as the Boilermakers took game one of the series in Bloomington over the Hoosiers, 4-2.
“That’s two years in a row on Friday night we played close to the same game,” IU coach Chris Lemonis said. “They outplayed us and deserved to win.”
Coming in, it was expected that a pitchers dual would be in the cards, especially on a Friday. Jonathan Stiever and Tanner Andrews are their respective team’s aces and they pitched liked aces. Both gave up two runs each.

Being the defending champions can always be a burden. For Black Key Bulls, they understand the pressure with it. However, with three returning riders they feel like another win could be in the cards.

IU soccer’s spring season kicks into full gear this weekend when they welcome in the Saint Louis Billikens to Bill Armstrong Stadium on Saturday night.
Thus far the Hoosiers have played three matches in this spring season. On February 25, IU faced off against Valparaiso and Evansville, respectively earning 3-0 and 4-0 wins. Then on March 3, the Hoosiers faced off with USL side Swope Park Rangers, playing to a 2-2 draw.
After spring break and a mellow March, Saturday will be the first time they have played in over a month.
Here are a few things to look for heading into Saturday’s match and beyond.
