This weekend may not have many high-profile matchups like some other weekends have, but this weekend is as, if not more, important than any other weekend we’ve seen so far. This is because we’re just over three weeks away from Selection Sunday and two weeks away from the end of the regular season. This means that there aren’t many opportunities left for teams to pick up wins to boost their resume, making every game left absolutely critical. For bubble teams and teams safely in the field alike, this weekend could be the turning point, changing the trajectory of their seasons for better or for worse.

The top two overall seeds in last week's NCAA men's basketball tournament projections both lost in the past week.

With the end of the season getting closer, every game becomes more important, which made these games just that much more entertaining to watch. We’ve seen big top-10 matchups, along with crazy upsets, which are just two things that make college basketball great on a daily basis. This weekend, plus Monday night’s Houston/Iowa State game, gave us some great moments, including some fantastic ranked battles. With fewer than four weeks until Selection Sunday, the games are only going to get better, but they were very solid over the weekend plus Monday.

This highlight of this weekend's men's basketball slate should be Marquette at UConn, while matchups in the Big 12 and even the American are worth following. Here are the most important games to watch this weekend.

An upset-filled week gives us quite the shake-up at the top of the bracket, including a new No. 1 seed! That wasn’t the only movement, as several teams either moved up or down after an eventful slate of games this week. Iowa State is up with their continued success in the Big 12, while Wisconsin is down because they took three straight upset losses in a row.

While there are not as many high-ranked matchups as there were last weekend, this weekend might be even better. This is because there is so much potential for several upsets to go down on Saturday. Even the best of teams have a hard time playing in a road, conference environment, and there are many of those types of games this week. From the Big Ten to the SEC to several Big 12 games, most conferences have a game on Saturday involving one of their top teams going into a road environment that has upset written all over it.

A weekend that was expected to be one of the best of the men's basketball season certainly lived up to the hype. Four top-10 matchups made last weekend one to remember.

I hope you didn’t make plans for this weekend because if you did, you might have to cancel them after you see the upcoming slate of games in college hoops. Four top-10 matchups in a weekend is truly something, plus there are other notable games as teams chase at-large bids to the NCAA tournament.

It’s officially February! As we draw closer to Selection Sunday (just 45 days away, but who’s counting?), the bracket will change more and more, and this week’s update is no different. Several top teams such as Kentucky, Dayton and Oklahoma, have all suffered upsets recently and are down. Many teams are trending up, such as Iowa State, Alabama and South Carolina, who are all looking great after their big wins this past week.

After last week’s numerous upsets, no one knows what to expect for the rest of the men's basketball season. There are several upset opportunities this week, starting on Tuesday.

It feels like every week when I recap the biggest headlines from college basketball’s previous week, I mention several top teams that went down in upset fashion. So this week's edition will be mostly the same: a few ranked teams went down in surprising fashion, while the rest of the action was mostly normal, right? Wrong! We had ourselves quite a week, with 15 out of the 25 ranked teams losing — almost no one was safe from the upset. This made for an amazing and entertaining week of basketball, one with so many great storylines.

Following up last weekend’s action may be tough, but there are many great matchups that could live up to the action we saw last week. The season may seem to have just started, but there's just two months left, meaning games get even more important as we move closer to the end of the campaign. In-conference games are also especially important, which should make for a critical slate of games.

College basketball is known for being where the unexpected is expected, and Saturday was no different. Nine different ranked teams lost, but six were of the upset variety. No. 7 Marquette, No. 12 BYU, No. 13 Colorado State, No. 17 FAU, No. 19 James Madison and No. 20 Texas went down on Saturday, some with more shocking losses than others. While the start to the week was a bit slow, it heated up in the end as we had a top-10 matchup on Friday, followed by a great Saturday of basketball. In total, nine ranked teams took a loss on Saturday, the most of any day so far this season. Some were upset, while others may have expected the loss, but nonetheless seeing this many top teams go down is always entertaining.

Conference play gets its jumpstart this week with several great matchups, which, because the last couple weeks have been a bit of a dry spell in terms of big games, should make fans very excited. The highlight of this week should be Illinois traveling to Purdue to take on the Boilermakers. Along with that showdown, there are some other serious conference play clashes to look forward to.
