INSTANT RECAP: Indiana drops triple-digits in consecutive games after win over UW-Milwaukee

Indiana recorded 10+ 3-point makes in three straight games for the first time since 2016

Indiana men’s basketball kept its hot start kindled in a work-man like effort on Wednesday at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The Hoosiers downed UW-Milwaukee 101-77 to improve to 3-0.

So far in the Darian DeVries era, the Hoosiers have shown an innate ability to shoot the 3-pointer consistently and that's exactly how IU found its victory Wednesday.

The first half saw Indiana hit nine shots from beyond the long line. Lamar Wilkerson led the way to a 51-39 halftime lead with four 3-balls in the frame. He went on to finish with 24 points.

On a night where Tucker DeVries was not his best, with just 15 points, Tayton Conerway had his best night of the young season so far with 21 points.

Milwaukee kept this game interesting for a while, hitting some tough shots to combat some Hoosier blows. But as time went on, Indiana’s lead didn’t get to a frighteningly small size and saw itself up 25 at the under-four media timeout.

“I thought our guys in the second half, there was a lot of possessions. I thought we played really good D(efense),” Darian DeVries said.

Again, it was another stress and injury-free game for this Hoosier team that is still gelling together, regardless of how the team makes it look like that is false. Wednesday’s win comes after a 100-77 win over Marquette on Sunday in Chicago.

A noteworthy stat for a program that has not shot the 3-ball well, Indiana recorded 10+ 3-point makes in three straight games for the first time since December 2016.

“I think they’re getting the right type of shots. I think guys do a great job of understanding how to get shooters open,” DeVries said.

The Hoosiers will be back in action on Sunday to take on Incarnate Word at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
