Indiana women’s basketball won the longest game in Big Ten tournament history Thursday night 111-109 in 4OT against Michigan State. The Hoosiers led the entire game until four minutes remaining, but big shots down the stretch from senior forward Amanda Cahill pushed it to overtime. Cahill led IU with a career high 38 points in the win, while senior guard Tyra Buss struggled, shooting just 8-26 from the field (2-9 3PT).
At the end of the first overtime, Michigan State had thought they won on a buzzer beater, but following a clock malfunction the basket was waived off. A layup at the buzzer by Cahill pushed a third overtime, and eventually she iced the game in the fourth overtime with a pair of free throws. Cahill and Buss played all 60 minutes of the game while freshmen Jaelynn Penn and Bendu Yeaney played 59 and 56 minutes respectively.
No. 7 Indiana will play No. 2 Maryland Friday night at 6:30 with a semifinal appearance on the line. Hear what head coach Teri Moren, Cahill, Buss and Penn had to say following the win.
